The hybrid system "will slash fuel consumption and increase performance," Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said at the recent Beijing auto show.
The new car, which has yet to be named, will be available in the United States in the second half of 2013.
Ferrari says the Enzo replacement will be its fastest and most powerful road car ever, surpassing the 740 hp in the F21 Berlinetta that debuted at the Geneva show in March. According to Italian press reports, the new car will produce close to 900 hp through a combination of its internal combustion engine and two electric motors.
Ferrari said that in testing, the so-called HY-KERS hybrid system has slashed fuel consumption by about 40 percent while cutting 0-to-124 mph time by about 3 seconds compared with a Ferrari model without the system.
The system adds about 265 pounds, but Ferrari will compensate for some of that by cutting weight from the chassis and powertrain.
Felisa said the chassis will use the same grade of carbon fiber found in Ferrari's Formula One cars. That carbon fiber is lighter and more durable than the carbon fiber used in the chassis and body of the Enzo.
Samsung Electronics will supply lithium ion cells to Ferrari, which will assemble them into battery packs at its Formula One racing headquarters in Fiorano, Italy.
Ferrari has not decided when the limited-edition model will make its public debut, but it could happen next March in Geneva.
The company has not decided how many units it will build. It produced 399 Enzos from 2002-11 and 349 units of the Enzo's predecessor, the F50, from 1995-2001.
